On November 11, Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Félix Baes Baptista de Faria presented the possibilities of trading that Córdoba and Brazil have to 100 businessmen from Córdoba on the basis of the Import Substitution Program (PSCI) developed by the Brazilian government.
During the event organized by ProCórdoba Agency through Córdoba’s Business Center in Brazil (CordoBra), the Brazilian Civil Registry Officer explained that the program’s goal is "to promote Latin American and South American incorporation and to strengthen the region’s economy and trade”. To achieve this, Baptista de Faria detailed the main initiative: "We are seeking to replace imports we made to other regions with products made in South America and Latin America. This allows us to carry out productive chains between countries".
As regards the working method for the effective functioning of PSCI, he said: "When the government representatives exchange information at an executive level, the Brazilian area analyzes the range for export or the difficulties that national exporters, in this case Argentina and Córdoba, present to Brazil. The Brazilian Chancellery analyzes the existing difficulties in exporting its products to Brazil. The goal of PSCI is to explain the nature of these requirements and how they can be solved".
As regards the last goal of this program, he said that it tries to balance the differences in trade scales, especially with neighboring countries.
Opportunities for Córdoba. As regards local companies’ possibilities of exporting, based on Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs own study on the basis of INDEC data, Baptista de Faria emphasized the existing opportunities to sell edible crude oil, wheat, powdered milk, medicine, soya, corn, spare parts, agricultural machinery, among others.
Moreover, he highlighted the positive context of trade between Córdoba and Brazil: "During 2007 and 2010, Córdoba’s exports to Brazil increased 150%. Among those sales, spare parts and wheat flour stand out. Argentina’s exports to Brazil also increased 57% during 2008 and 2012".
Gigante’s challenges. As regards Brazil’s short-term challenges that concern trading with other countries, the Civil Registry Officer said: “We are seeking to maintain a balanced change, to keep inflation under control, to increase the Gross Domestic Product and Brazilian and foreign investments in internal logistics".
