FOOD INDUSTRY

The transformation of the soil, the extreme climatic changes registered worldwide and the exponentially growth of the global population have emerged as key opportunities for Córdoba, from the heart of Argentina itself, to become a major food producer and supplier on a global level.

Thanks to its vast extension, its exceptional natural resources, the constant technological development in the agricultural industry and the excellent level of human resources at professional, technical and operator levels, Córdoba has grown to be exemplary in the creation and development of high quality food, demanded by the most demanding markets.

Córdoba has been a model and referential agricultural focus for decades, with great prestige worldwide. Its strategic location, as a geographic and economic center of Mercosur, as well as its vast infrastructure in roads, energy and communication, the development of new technologies have contributed to its position.  Also contributing to its title, Córdoba has adapted itself to the needs of the most demanding markets and has developed high quality control standards.

Dairy Region

The Province of Córdoba is the main dairy region of the country, and one of the most important in Latin America. Its share in the national total has kept growing over time, reaching 37% nowadays. Furthermore, it leads by 43% the provincial dairy production of the region of Department San Martín (Villa Maria area).

Other major regions include the Southern Region (Huinca Renancó area) and the Northeast Region (Morteros area). Cheese, milk powder, and fresh products such as yogurt, desserts, and custard, are key products within the industry.

Important grain producer

The Province is a major producer of grain. The six core crops are soybeans, corn, wheat, sunflower, peanut and sorghum. Moreover, Córdoba produces industrial crops, vegetables and fruits, among which the production of potatoes, sweet potatoes and olive stand out

Not only does its primary production contribute to the industrialization of the province, but also to its exports. Therefore, the agricultural production of Córdoba represents 9.7% of the Gross Domestic Product.

Livestock Production

Livestock, with productive and economic purposes, is the second largest activity of the primary sector of the Province of Córdoba, after Agriculture. With a roundup equivalent to 7.8 million heads of cattle, the activity includes extensive animal husbandry (modified by the producer natural resources). 

Recently, livestock production has intensified, improving productivity and efficiency. Pork is mainly used for the production of sausages and cold cuts.

There are more than 1,500 agro food industries that produce a variety of food products: candies, soda, marmalade and jams, pastas, oils, cold cuts, spices and condiments.
