Agencia ProCórdoba received authorities from the Thai Embassy in Argentina, in the institutional and business framework of the visit that they are paying around the province.

Headed by the Ambassador of Thailand in Argentina, Mr. Medha Promthep, and the Commercial Attaché of the Embassy in the country, Mr. Vorramun Fuang-Arrom, the delegation was received by the President of ProCórdoba, Mr. Gerardo Seidel, on Tuesday March 27.

The group of Thai authorities was also integrated by the First Secretary of the Embassy in Argentina, Mr. Thanabordee Joothong; the Second Secretary, Mr. Pottanee Homjit, and the Secretary of the Embassy, Ms. Maria Emilia Maronese.

The meeting was also attended by the Directors of ProCórdoba, Mr. Carlos Pelliza, Mr. Roberto Podadera and Ms. Maria Susana Chiófalo; the ProCórdoba General Manager, Mr. Jorge Mansilla, the President and CEO of the Cordoba Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Horacio Busso and Mr. Victor Lutri, and the CEO of the Argentine Chamber of Peanut, Ms. Beatriz Ackermann.

During the meeting, the Thai Ambassador said the aim of his visit to the province was to get as much information as possible about Cordoba, to transmit and share with businessmen from his country. "I think the two economies are mutually supportive. I hope this grows into mutual cooperation to attract Thai entrepreneurs to Cordoba", said Mr. Medha Promthep.

Thailand is located in the heart of Southeast Asia and its territorial expansion is ranked 51st worldwide. It represents a fifth of the Argentine territory, but it has a population of 67 million inhabitants.

With 0.8% unemployment rate, its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounts to U$S 355 billion. In this regard, exports account for 60% GDP, as in the last year they reached to U$S 193 billion.

"Our exports are mainly concentrated in data processing machines, cars, jewelry, electronic integrated circuits and rubber, while imports are focused on petroleum and chemicals, among others" said the Ambassador.

In this context, Córdoba exported to Thailand U$S 105 million worth in products, based on estimated data for December 2011. Among these, U$S 68.85 million were on Manufactures of Agricultural Origin (MOA), U$S 27.88 million of commodities (PP, in Spanish) and U$S 8.9 million on Manufactures of Industrial Origin (MOI, in Spanish).

After this institutional meeting, the Thai delegation met with entrepreneurs in the Cordoba peanut sector, among whom were Mr. Luis Macario, the President of the Argentina Chamber of Peanuts and chairman of Gastaldi Hnos., Ms. Beatriz Ackermann, Mr. Javier Martinetto, Manager of Foreign Trade at AGD; Mr. Radek Horackzy, head of foreign trade at Maglione & Cia.; Mr. Jorge Baselica, President of Baselica Hnos., Mr. Carlos Biondi, Operations Manager at Olega; Mr. Sebastian Fillol, Promotion Manager at n NUTRIN (belonging in the Group Lorenzati Ruetsch); and Mr. Andres Kiceleff, Commercial Director at OLAM ARGENTINA

Visits to universities and companies
As part of his visit to Cordoba, on Thursday March 29, the representatives of the Southeast Asian country held a meeting with officials from the Catholic University of Cordoba and the School of Political Science and International Relations.

They also visited the facility Arcor Chocolate located in the town of Colonia Caroya. And then, in the morning of March 30, they made a tour of the feed-lot belonging to the company San Cefernio -Campos y Hacienda SA.

It should be noted that in 1955 Argentina was the first Latin American country with which Thailand established links and today is the 2nd largest trading partner in South America.
