Exports from Córdoba Reached a Total 2,704 Million Dollars in the First Quarter of 2018

ProCórdoba Agency’s Technical & Commercial Information Department informs that exports from Córdoba reached a total 2,704 million dollars in the first quarter of 2018, which represents 13.8% of the country’s exports.

The figure evidences a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2017, which can be accounted for by the higher value of the shipments to eight of the ten main trade destinations of the Province — including Brazil, Viet Nam and Algeria, which represented 36% of the province’s exports.

The province’s exports went to a total 144 destinations during this period. The 20 main destinations among these concentrated 81% of the export value. Exports by major categories were distributed as follows: articles of agricultural origin (in Spanish, MOA) represented 47.8% of the total, whereas primary products (PP) amounted to 31.3% and articles industrial origin (in Spanish, MOI) represented 20.8%.

As regards primary products, 83% of the exports were cereals, whose main destinations were Viet Nam and Algeria (13%) and, in the second place, Brazil (10%). On the other hand, there has been a significant drop in the export of primary products to China, compared to last year, when China occupied the second place.

Moving on, articles of agricultural origin exports were concentrated mainly in residues and waste from the food industries (57%). This product category stands out due to the relative diversification in its destinations: Viet Nam is in the first place, with a 14 % share in the exports, which is followed by India and Indonesia, which represent 9 % each.

Articles of industrial origin exports were highly concentrated in Brazil, the destination country for 71% of the shipments’ value in this product category. This implies a 116% increase compared to 2017. The rise in exports with this trade partner entailed a general 42% improvement in exports of articles of industrial origin, despite the fall in shipments to Germany and Mexico, one of the most important destinations in the category.
